Counselling in your first language
Talking about fear, hurt or love is easier in the language you feel in. Many Russian speakers in Australia find they choose their words more carefully in English and lose the nuance. In sessions with Elena you can speak Russian, switch between languages, or use whichever feels right in the moment.
Bilingual sessions for mixed couples
If one partner speaks Russian and the other doesn't, sessions can run in both languages at once. Each partner speaks in the language that comes most naturally, and Elena makes sure both of you are heard and understood. This is not interpreting word for word: it is counselling that works directly with both of you.
What people come for
- Ongoing arguments, or distance and silence
- Strain on the relationship after moving to Australia
- Trust and infidelity
- Different cultures, languages and expectations about family
- Separation, and supporting children through it
- Anxiety, stress and loneliness away from family
Looking for a Russian-speaking psychologist?
Many people search for a "Russian-speaking psychologist". In Australia, "psychologist" is a protected title for practitioners registered with AHPRA, whose sessions can attract Medicare rebates with a GP plan. Elena is a counsellor: the role that Russian speakers often know at home as a "psychologist-consultant" or "family psychologist". Counselling focuses on relationships and life difficulties through talking therapy, and you don't need a referral. Read more in Russian.
